“I thought I already knew a lot about the area, but the WCL program showed me how limited I actually was. My eyes were opened to the vast array of activities, possibilities, and solutions in this beautiful part of the world. And the people whom I met, and who spoke at the workshops were amazing. Such a positive experience!”
— Bibby Veerman, program participant
“The WCL program was wonderful, and it was terrific to take a deeper dive into the many issues and resources that confront and surround us in this region. I always find it inspiring to meet the changemakers and to hear their stories. Thank you for making that possible.”
— Howard Rosenfeld, program participant
Western Connecticut Leadership (WCL), an initiative of Connecticut Community Foundation, was launched in 2012 thanks to the guidance and leadership of Ilene Leff, chair of the hard-working and dedicated inaugural planning team. In addition, the Greater Naples Leadership allowed us to learn from their successful program, for which we are most grateful.
WCL has educated proven leaders and accomplished professionals about current issues and challenges facing Western Connecticut towns. At the conclusion of the nine session days comprising the program— each devoted to a different issue—participants have been encouraged to engage with nonprofit organizations in the 21-town Greater Waterbury and Litchfield Hills region.
